Barberstown Castle

Ireland: Central Ireland: County Kildare: Straffan
Originally built as a castle in 1288, there are four buildings from different periods of time, notably, the additions of the Elizabethan and Victorian periods blend in beautifully with the overall architecture over the last 8 centuries. It has changed owners 37 times over the years, most recently Eric Clapton sold the property to the present owner Ken Healy in 1987. It has recently undergone a multimillion euro renovation with careful attention given to retaining the original Castle features, character, style and personality of this unique property. Rooms are spacious and each room is unique. The hotel is completely non-smoking. Visitors to Barberstown will experience a very relaxing and welcoming Castle while enjoying great food, good wines, open log fires, luxury and exceptional personal service. Nestled on 20 acres of surrounding gardens, Barberstown Castle opened as a hotel in 1971. It is the perfect country house hotel as its location is just a 30 minute drive to Dublin Airport or the center of Dublin. Barberstown Castle is a great base to visit Castletown House, the beautiful Wicklow Mountains, Glendalough, and for golfers, the world renowned K Club is only 1km away.
