Noted as "One of the Best Places to Stay" by National Geographic Traveler in 2010, Belle Isle Castle is a world apart. Located on a 470 acre estate spread over ten picturesque islands, the castle sits on its own island connected to the mainland by a bridge. The property dates back to the early 17th century and was once home to generations of nobles. It has been extensively yet sensitively refurbished, harmoniously blending modern conveniences with the antiquity of the castle. Recently renovated, the castle now features eight luxurious bedrooms, each uniquely decorated with antique furniture. Seven of the bedrooms are ensuite while the Garden bedroom has its own dedicated bathroom.

Guests enter the castle through the double-vaulted entrance chamber which leads to an elegant drawing room, complete with an open fireplace, crowned by an over mantel mirror. The furnishings are an eclectic mix of fine English and Irish antiques, rattan furniture from the spice island of Cebu and striking Russian paintings from St. Petersburg. The floor to ceiling windows offer views of the charming sunken garden. Passing through the entrance hall you will find the Grand Hall, once a vast banqueting room complete with its own minstrel's gallery. The Belle Isle School of Cookery offers both day and residential courses. It is run by the resident chef Liz Moore and is supported by Michel Roux. Liz’s expertise and easy-going manner combined with a wonderful sense of humor make for fun-filled sessions in the cookery school. It is very much a hands-on experience with a maximum of ten students per course. There is a tennis court, croquet lawn and boats for hire.

This area has many National Trust properties to visit, including Florence Court, an 18th century Palladian mansion and Castle Coole, the finest neo-classical home in Ireland complete with its original furnishings intact.
