Reopened in 2011 after a major refurbishment, the castle has a prominent position on a hilltop with a view of the Val D’Orcia, surrounded by the wine area where the great Brunello di Montalcino wine is produced. The hotel was closed for more than three years and reopened with a total of 46 rooms divided between castle rooms with traditional décor and spa accommodations with more contemporary décor. During the excavation to create the new rooms in the side of the hill, two terme or hot springs were discovered. Thus, the hotel has reopened as a spa hotel and offers full spa facilities including thermal water in the bathtubs of the spa rooms. There is a wide range of rooms and suites available including a two-bedroom suite, a Presidential Suite and a Royal Suite. All guest rooms are non-smoking and all feature individual climate control, wireless internet, Satellite television and all modern comforts and conveniences.
A new and very nice feature is the central courtyard of the castle which is now covered by a glass dome so that it can be used to enjoy aperitifs no matter what the weather. The hotel’s fine dining restaurant serves meals outdoors on their magnificent terrace during the summer and in the castle’s elegant dining rooms during winter months. Other facilities include a casual dining restaurant, an outdoor pool with pool bar, a fitness center, a 15,000 sq. ft. spa equipped with two outdoor spa pools (one with hydromassage), five treatment rooms, one room for couples’ treatments, a sauna, Turkish bath, and color sensory showers. There is a wide choice of face and body treatments.
From this location, it is easy to organize a wine tasting, visit Montepulciano, the Val D’Orcia, and Montalcino to name just a few of the possibilities.
