A long winding drive through ancient woods and deer pastures brings you to the enormous front door of this splendid 18th century Georgian mansion. This is the family home to 8 generations of the O'Hara's who have been welcoming visitors to Sligo since the 5th century. The O'Hara's are invariably there to welcome you personally and settle you in with a cup of tea and freshly baked scones in front of the open log fire in the Drawing room. This gives guests the feeling that they are visiting old friends who just happen to have an estate in the country! The 14 foot high ceilings, bright, spacious bedrooms and original antiques at every turn will take your breath away. There are 8 bedrooms, each unique and known by name not number. The Venetian Room, on the first floor, is the original master bedroom and the largest in the house. It has a charming four poster queen-sized bed with views over the lawns at the front of the house. Dining at Coopershill is what they like to call "From Farm to Fork". All of their produce, meat, and fish are raised locally and organically to bring the freshest food to the table. The menu changes daily and is dictated by the ripening of the produce in the vegetable and fruit gardens and the recommendations of their local butcher and fishmonger. Dinner is a highlight served at candle lit tables set with family silver and crystal. This is the land of W.B. Yeats with mountains, lakes and megalithic ruins along with championship golf courses, beaches and fishing just a short drive away. But the best place to be is on the 500 acre estate at Coopershill with delightful paths through the woods and deer pastures. If you're lucky, Alice the spaniel might take you for a walk! make friends with the family pets. Children's tea is served daily at 5:30pm and is always a fun social event.
