Currarevagh House is a romantic Irish Victorian Country Manor house sitting on 150 acres of private woodland in Oughterard, "The Gateway to the Connemara". Built by the present owner's ancestors in 1842, it is still run more along the lines of a private country house rather than a hotel. Afternoon tea is served complimentary each day. The 12 guestrooms are individually styled and offer undisturbed views of either Lough Corrib or the mountains to the north. Guests have exclusive use of the three comfortable sitting rooms to relax beside open turf fires, enjoying the views or quietly snoozing to the sound of…nothing. Children are welcome and for hungry tots early suppers and baby food are available. As it is nestled along the banks of Lough Corrib, this lovely property provides boats and picnics for the day and one can hire Ghillies (guides) for fishing the wild brown trout that is found abundantly in the lake. Guests can also enjoy walks along the many nature paths through the private woodlands or in the local area. The village of Oughterard has thatched roof cottages, shops and friendly pubs. It is also a center for golf, angling, hiking, bicycling and pony trekking. This is the perfect base to explore Western Ireland: the Connemara, Aran Islands, Galway, as well as being within an easy reach of the Burren and the Cliffs of Moher.
