Originally built in 1901, this wonderful five-star deluxe property offers extensive facilities including two seafront swimming pools (one indoor and one outdoor), cabanas, state-of-the-art seafront spa and fitness center offering every beauty treatment as well as workout equipment and sauna, garage parking, and excellent meeting facilities.
There is also a seafront restaurant and grill during the summer months. The lunch buffet by the sea is impressive, and in the evenings during the summer months, there is piano music at the seafront restaurant. Meals are excellent and are served in the main restaurant during cool weather months. There is also a very attractive lobby bar where light meals can be served.
The Excelsior Palace is a leader in offering a wide range of healthy alternatives, particularly noticeable on the extensive breakfast buffet. Accommodations are fully equipped, well-appointed and 99% have sea view and include those suitable for families. Suite #710 is often referred to as the "The JDB Suite" because so many JDB clients have stayed there. It is a one-bedroom suite, with an enormous terrace facing the Ligurian Coast.
The staff here is exceptional and while JDB has received many compliments about them, Angelo Cipollina, the concierge, is one person always mentioned by name. He is quick to give guests helpful tips. For example, the Cinque Terre area is easily accessible by boat or train from Rapallo. And the best way to visit Portofino is to take the public ferry so you avoid sitting in line waiting for a parking space in the garage in Portofino to become available!
