Reopened in January 2011 after a four year top to bottom renovation, this grande dame hotel has been brought to the standard of a five-star resort. There is no detail that has been overlooked at the owner. Everything has been done perfectly and in exquisite taste.
Built in 1870, while Florence was the capital of Italy, this 46 room property (including 8 with balconies) combines elegant furnishings with personal service. Located in a peaceful setting on its own grounds behind the Boboli Gardens, it is just a 20 minute walk down the hill to the Ponte Vecchio. For those conserving energy, there are complimentary on demand transfers into town in the hotel’s private vehicles.
Rooms overlook the new, large, heated swimming pool or the garden and are beautifully furnished with restored period furniture and works of art from the family’s eclectic private collection. All of the frescoes and stucco has been carefully restored. From the Imperial Suite to a plain double, the rooms are works of art, and each one is different. The drawing rooms on the main floor are nothing less than spectacular. A new chef presents cuisine commensurate with a property of this stature. The entire staff obviously relishes the opportunity to welcome guests into this spectacular environment and look after them during their stay.
The new spa and fitness room are reached via the most beautifully appointed tunnels connecting the main villa with the second villa and the poolside restaurant. Guests need not worry about going outside in their bathrobes or getting wet during inclement weather.
This is an amazing property now that its restoration is complete, and JDB clients are accorded extra special attention here.
