During a recent visit, we were very impressed with the outstanding staff at this wonderful hotel, located just two blocks from the Colosseum. This area of Rome that has become a very chic place to live and to visit. During the Roman period, it was the ancient center where the Romans lived. Today it is a lively area, full of restaurants, shops and coffee bars, and one can see that while there is ongoing restoration, a lot has already taken place.
The hotel, which takes its name from the street on which it is located, is filled with the owner's private collection of contemporary Italian art. The building, which was formerly a school, dates to the 19th century and has been completely renovated to include all comforts - marble bathrooms, double pane windows, and internet connection. At the end of each corridor, there are two rooms that can be locked off together for families. The unique studio suite has a very large private terrace.
Breakfast is served in the rooftop terrace which is light and lovely, and during summer months grilled items are available in the evening, also on the rooftop, an adaptation of an American summer favorite. Light food is always available at the lobby bar. There is a small fitness center on the lower level.
Nearby are Villa Celimontana, a park where open air jazz concerts are held every year from June through September, and the San Clemente Basilica (worth a visit) that has been completely restored. Piazza Venezia is about a 20-minute walk from the hotel.
