Palazzo Priuli, a 14th century palazzo conveniently located on a small canal just a short walk from St. Mark's Square, is a small hotel that reflects the outgoing personality of its high energy owner. Offering the charm of an elegant private residence but with modern conveniences, the palazzo is the oldest palazzo in Venice that is operating as a hotel. It is an excellent example of Gothic architecture with its mullioned windows and magnificent marble staircase, one of the first in Venice by the Calendari School. The same architect created the staircase in the Palazzo Ducale.
Among the twelve accommodations are two junior suites, one of which is very special with a very large bathroom with three windows (in the bathroom!) overlooking the small canal. The other features an original fireplace, but does not have a canal view. All other rooms do have a view on the small canal running alongside the hotel, as well as antique furnishings, marble bathrooms, satellite television, in-room safe and phone connection for fax/modem. There are two sets of connecting rooms for families. Rooms on first floor are all spacious whereas rooms on the ground floor are somewhat smaller. JDB clients are assured the best rooms as JDB is the top producer for this hotel.
The most recent accomplishment of the owner is the new restaurant that he opened just behind Palazzo Priuli. If there were still doges in Venice, this man would surely be the next doge!
NOTE: SAN ZACCARIA is the closest stop for guests taking the public vaporetto. A Private Water Taxi stop is located just a few meters from the hotel entrance, and the hotel bellman can assist guests with their luggage upon arrival. Building is two stories and there is NO ELEVATOR.
