Rathsallagh House
Ireland: Central Ireland: County Wicklow
Converted from Queen Anne stables in 1798, Rathsallagh is a large comfortable house situated in 530 acres of peaceful parkland with a walled garden and its own 18-hole Championship Golf Course (recently rated as one of the top 30 golf courses in Ireland). It is central to some of the most beautiful countryside in Ireland. Close by are Glendalough (monastic ruins dating back to the 6th century), the Wicklow mountains, the Japanese Gardens & National Stud in Kildare and the racecourses of Curragh and Punchestown, yet Dublin is less than one hour's drive. All rooms are individually decorated and named. The food is country house cooking at its best and is organically produced by local growers and in Rathsallagh's gardens. Game in season and fresh fish from the Wexford coast are specialities. In 2008 Rathsallagh was awarded the "Gold Medal for Best Country House" in Ireland for the second year in a row, and in 2007 Rathsallagh won the "Best Restaurant in Leinster" award from Food & Wine Magazine. For small golf groups or families, there is a cottage set in an acre of its own grounds, Eagle's Lodge, just on the edge of the golf course. It offers 3 bedrooms all with ensuite baths, a sitting room and a fully equipped kitchen. Guests can have the privacy of their cottage combined with all the services of the hotel. For golf outside of Rathsallagh, The K Club, PGA National, are less than 30 minutes drive while Mount Juliet, Druids Glen, The Heritage and Carton are all less than 1 hour away.
