Voted by Conde Nast Traveler in 2009 as the best private house on the Island of Ireland, Tankardstown is truly unique, encompassing the best of a Historic Manor House with all the luxuries demanded by today's well travelled guests. Situated on 80 acres, just 40 minutes North West of Dublin, Tankardstown offers a stunning blend of classic and contemporary style designed for the comfort of its guests. Kick back by the fireside in the living room, indulge in a sumptuous meal in the dining room, or relax with a book in the drawing room. Their newly opened restaurant, Brabazon, is located in what once was the cow shed but is now a romantic and intimate venue for dining. For more relaxed dining, there is the estate’s Bistro where "great food and great wine are served at a great price."
Accommodations are found either in the charming, stone-cut courtyard cottage suites (formerly the 18th century stables) which surround a tranquil fountain or in the Heritage rooms of the main house. The courtyard suites, either 1 or 2 bedrooms, are great for families as all feature kitchenettes and DVD libraries. For a small supplement, a breakfast basket can be delivered to your door, or you may dine in the main house. When exploring the grounds do not miss the walled garden. This is where you will find the Summer House for massages, "musical trees" which have a docking station and speakers for your iPod, and the outdoor hot tub – a truly spectacular experience in the evening when you will see too many stars to count.
Nearby is the World Heritage Site, Newgrange, one of the top archeological attractions in Ireland featuring prehistoric tombs; Slane Castle; the Hill of Tara where you will find Ireland’s "Stonehenge" and for golfers Baltray, County Louth and Portmarnock besides 5 other courses in a 20 mile radius.
