This wonderful villa sits on the border between Tuscany and Umbria, just 2.5 miles from Cortona. Originally built as a hunting lodge by Cardinal Passerini who died in 1529, the villa has been beautifully restored by the family who own and manage it. All the rooms are large and furnished with antiques, the tiled bathrooms are immaculate (with excellent water pressure!), and many suites and junior suites have a window in the bathroom. (One has such a wonderful countryside view, clients take their cameras into the bathroom instead of reading material!) There are two connecting rooms - each with its own ensuite bathroom - that are perfect for families.
There is a large swimming pool and a lovely terrace for breakfast during good weather. The villa has a wine cellar where guests can enjoy wine tastings as well as a restaurant serving a four-course dinner featuring traditional Tuscan cuisine. A light lunch of salads, local cheeses, cold cuts and breads is served in the villa's garden.
There is a garden suite which is just at the rear of the swimming pool and perfect for honeymooners. The newest accommodations are adjacent to the main villa and would work well for families.
This is a PERFECT place to base to explore the Tuscan towns of Cortona, Pienza, Montepulciano, and Montalcino as well as northern Umbria. And nowhere will you receive a warmer welcome than from the Wimpole family who are always present and looking after their guests. And as John Wimpole is Australian, there is no language problem here!
NOTE: Hotel is closed during January and February.
